LOX Fire Prevention System at Coldo’s Cold Storage and Freezer Facility
Customer Case Study
Fire Prevention Without Product Damage
For Coldo, a specialist in refrigerated and frozen storage based in Kuurne, Belgium, one thing is paramount: protecting stored goods. With a capacity of thousands of pallet spaces and strong growth ambitions, it is important that products remain safe, even in the event of a fire.
But that raises an important question:
How do you protect large quantities of stored goods from fire without them being damaged by the fire suppression system itself?
In cold storage and freezer facilities, a traditional fire suppression system can have serious consequences. As soon as water, foam, or other fire suppressants are deployed, there is a high probability that the entire inventory will be rendered unusable.
This means:
- Immediate damage to products
- Financial loss
- Disruption of logistics processes
For a cold storage or freezer facility, that’s simply not an option. The solution had to be not only effective against fire but also completely safe for the stored goods.
A Different Approach to Fire Safety
In its search for a suitable solution, Coldo turned to Presscon’s LOX fire prevention system. Instead of fighting fires, this system focuses on preventing them.
By controlled reduction of the oxygen level in the room to 16%, it becomes impossible for a fire to develop. At the same time, products remain completely intact and the room remains accessible to employees.
This approach aligns seamlessly with the need to minimize risks without compromising product quality.
From Design to Integration
The implementation of the LOX system was fully tailored to Coldo’s specific situation. The process consisted of:
- Analysis of the areas to be protected
- Development of a custom solution
- Installation following the completion of the warehouse
- Integration into daily operations
The system has been operational since 2025 and protects a total area of 336,690 m³, with a capacity of 1,100 m³ per hour.

By implementing LOX fire prevention, Coldo benefits from a number of key advantages:
- Continuous fire prevention instead of reactive fire suppression
- No use of water, foam, or residue
- Complete protection of stored products
- Fewer operational risks
- Preservation of the quality and value of inventory
The solution ensures that goods remain protected without causing additional damage in the event of an incident.
Ready for Further Growth
With the expansion to a high-bay warehouse and a capacity approaching 60,000 pallet spaces, Coldo continues to invest in smart and future-proof solutions. The LOX fire prevention system fits perfectly with this strategy and grows alongside the organization.
Coldo’s innovative approach has also been recognized with several awards, including honors for entrepreneurship and logistics development.
Fire Prevention Without Compromise
By opting for fire prevention rather than fire suppression, Coldo offers a solution that perfectly meets the requirements of modern warehousing.
Goods remain protected, processes continue uninterrupted, and risks are minimized. And that is exactly what is needed in an environment where quality and continuity are paramount.
